Lafóa is a creative studio by Dutch designer and artist Toya Nasso. Works, ranging from conceptual garments to textile art, are designed through the science of biomimicry.

While the modern world is in constant change and movement, in the Lafóa studio time stands still. No trends. No seasons. Focusing on slow production, each piece is meticulously handcrafted from high-quality deadstock fabric, combining historical and sartorial hand sewing techniques. Based in Milan, Italy.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Considering nature a fundamental studybook, my work explores the harmony between forms, shapes, lines and structures found in natural landscapes and organisms. Studying topography and biology, my work reflects the behavior of natural elements and the way they interact with one another, resulting in solutions rooted in functionality and sustainability.

I consider myself a traditional modern tailor, reimagining sewing habits through an appreciation of history and the present. In a world where time has no longer meaning, my primary sewing technique is hand sewing. A practice rooted in cultural primitiveness, patience and awareness of today.
